The great passion for running that animates the organizers made the idea of ​​a 'Stelvio Virtual Run' come up for 2020, as is happening with many cycling races, professional and amateur.


The uniqueness, the originality and charm of the Stelvio Pass have often inspired sportsmen of the most diverse disciplines. Cycling and skiing tell of heroic deeds, but from the 2017 even the running lovers they have the opportunity to confront the mythical serpentine of hairpin bends during a truly mythical event.

The Stelvio Marathon, organized by the ASD Stelvio Marathon chaired by Peter Pfeifer and coordinated by Jürgen Geiser, for the 2020 had to accuse a stop, a bit like all sporting events, because of the Coronavirus. The South Tyrolean organizers have for some time already announced the cancellation of the fourth edition and the move to 19 June 2021, keeping the original program that foresees the Marathon of 42.195 km and 2.500 vertical metres, the Classic of 26 km and 2.400 m / dsl and the Short of 14 km and 1.180 m. vertical metres.

The Stelvio Marathon starts, always, in Prato allo Stelvio and ends at Passo Stelvio, with the track obviously closed to traffic for the occasion. The fact of not being able to compete in the 2020 had left a bitter taste in the mouth of many fans, but the pandemic forced all sportsmen to be inactive.

The spirit is different, but the goal is to virtually embrace the fans of the race waiting to be able to put the bib back on and compete along the suggestive hairpin bends of the Stelvio, that offer truly unique emotions.

Runners can participate by running in any location, choosing one of the three distances, therefore, they will have to upload their data and travel time on the official website portal with the altimetry supported. You can do it from the hours 6 by Friday, 12 June 13 on Sunday 14 June (the original date of the Stelvio Marathon event was Saturday 13), communicating the results of their performance obtained through the appropriate app or the fitness watch.

The organizers aim for the fairness and sportiness of the participants, so that truthful data is entered so that it can be processed and created a ranking that precisely takes account of time spent and height difference, with an interpolated target time.

In short, results and ranking apart, the 'virtual' initiative aims to maintain loyalty with the participants of the previous editions and create new proselytes.
