PrimaLoft P.U.R.E. reduces carbon emissions by 48%

This latest production innovation rewards PrimaLoft's "Relentlessy Responsible" commitment, in environmental sustainability.

PrimaLoft, Inc., world leader in cutting-edge materials technologies, presented PrimaLoft® P.U.R.E. ™, an exclusive production method that reduces carbon emissions by up to 48% .P.U.R.E., ” Produced Using Reduced Emissions”, is the latest innovative result of PrimaLoft®'s responsible and inflexible commitment to create more sustainable products while respecting the highest performance
necessary for the textile industry.

“Precisely because we are experts in advanced materials technologies is our task, and duty, drive ours
develop far beyond the product level, ”said Mike Joyce, president and CEO of PrimaLoft®. “In the past four years, we worked to create solutions capable of drastically reducing carbon emissions. The result is a revolutionary change in our production process that will have a very important impact on the environment”.

What benefits?

The initial insulation made with P.U.R.E. production technology. use the 100% of post recycled material
consumption, and has all the insulating and performance advantages of the existing PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation.

The technological change now allows the conversion of the annual production of PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation into PrimaLoft® P.U.R.E. ™ – with these important environmental benefits:

  • Reduction of 48% of carbon dioxide emissions *
  • Reduction of 348.111 pounds of carbon dioxide *
  • Savings of 438.617 miles of carbon dioxide – enough to drive around the earth 17,6 times*.

innovation: the air, instead of heat

The current and traditional production of insulation for technical clothing requires that the fibers are "thermally bonded" by passing slowly through high heat ovens. In accordance with its Relentlessly Responsible ™ mission, Primaloft ®, analyzed environmental assessments relating to its production, and has decided to remove the thermal furnaces in order to radically reduce carbon emissions.

“Once kilns have been identified as a key opportunity to reduce emissions, we took action to find a creative solution”, stressed Joyce: “Our engineers then developed and perfected a production technology that uses air, instead of heat, to polymerize and stabilize the insulation”.

In the fall 2020 Patagonia will be the first PrimaLoft® partner to incorporate PrimaLoft® P.U.R.E. ™ production technology into its products.

PrimaLoft ® PURE ™ follows the introduction of PrimaLoft® Bio ™ one year later, **, the first isolations and synthetic materials, in the world, recycled to 100% **.

PrimaLoft® Bio ™ will be available in the clothing of the Houdini and Norrøna brands, already in the autumn 2020.
