Differences between Mountain Bike: MTB Trail, All Mountain, Freeride, Downhill

The Mountain Biking is divdono in several categories: MTB Trail, MTB da All Mountain, MTB Freeride, MTB Downhill.

The Mountain Bike modern are classified broadly according to the frame and at suspensions, in order to make them more suitable for track type MTB they have to travel:

Front suspension or Hardtail : they are characterized by the suspension front fork.

Full suspension or full suspension or Softail : feature of the front fork and rear suspension damping system integrated in the frame.

Rigid : with his elastic frame, without suspensions.

The rear suspension can be catalogued in :

Monoshock (also called monopivot or cantilever): the wagon is connected to the frame via a single pivot point. Is a simple schematic, reliable, and cheap.

Deformable quadrilateral: the suspension is a form of quadrilateral, with four points of articulation. Is more expensive than the monoshock but has the advantage that it can be designed to provide a better response to soil disconnections.

Quadrilateral horst (patent Specialized): is a ’ evolution of deformable quadrilateral with reduction of solicitation sent to bike during the ride, resulting in reduction of wobbling.

Quadrilateral Lawwill: equivalent to the suspension of sports cars. If well designed has excellent performance.

VPP: is a recent suspension, that masimizza the concepts and benefits of quadrilateral horst.

MTB Trail

Is a MTB similar to those from XC, but it is not designed for competitions and more geared to the comfort and fun. And’ designed to handle both challenging climbs that technical descents with maximum comfort. Often, for this reason, is full suspension and generally has large disc brakes and excursions of the fork higher than MTB XC.
Often require suspensions and lockable fork, in order to avoid vibration during cycling, in order to transfer all power to the wheel; Their weight can range all ’ approximately 12 AI 18 kg.

MTB da All Mountain

This category (also called enduro) ranks among the MTB trail and freeride MTB; their frame is generally full suspension and the components are robust. Suspensions with generous travel and hydraulic disc brakes.
On more expensive bikes are mounted hydraulic disc brakes 180 mm in diameter or greater.
The change is at least 27 speed and the riding position is more upright and less demanding than the MTB XC. Are oriented to technically challenging hikes and trails.

MTB Freeride

Are special MTB technical features that reward driveability but confirm the robustness. Typically the frames are full suspension with ample suspension fork and excursions (beyond the 150 mm). The larger hydraulic or mechanical disc brakes. If mechanics, they are larger than your 200 mm.

MTB Downhill

Type of mountain biking specification for racing on paths completely downhill. The weights range from 16 AI 25 kg. These bikes are very durable because it must withstand any gaps and alignments.

This discipline is very dangerous and you should approach it step by step, starting with easy slopes.
The frames are exclusively full suspension with ample suspension fork and excursions (Come on 180 AI 240 mm) and with oversized hydraulic disc brakes (also over the 200 mm).

Generally are not suitable to travel stretches on asfaltae road, I used bikes pretty much just to get off by slopes in speed.
